Appreciation of Clarendon’s special-ness …
Dear Editor:
About a year ago, I wrote to you to enable me to say a thank you to Manning. As I explained then, I have tried to actively practice thanking people for their kindness, a job well done, an extra 110 percent over what was required and so on.
There were many things I appreciated about our times in Manning that I wanted a way to not only say thank you, but to point out things that you may not appreciate about your special area.
So, I am writing again for my annual thank you since I am unable to thank each of you. I hope through your paper I may at least thank some of you.
Thank you to your wonderful Clarendon farmers, who grow some of the best looking crops. As we drive to our lake house, we enjoy seeing how the corn has grown along Bill Davis Road. We have also enjoyed seeing some healthy cattle, too.
Now I am watching to see some of the new fruit orchards bear as we pass. Good luck to a successful growing season!
Thank you for your wonderful community interest and volunteer efforts.
I have been impressed with your extremely hard-working volunteers for the Animal Shelter of Clarendon County.
We have also seen some great spirit in some of the church fund-raisers. There have been some lovely attitudes, great smiles and hard work that make everyone feel good around you! You well represent your community and I commend you.
We enjoy the beauty of your old homes and gardens and the care you take of your city. We enjoy every minute that we are able to spend in Clarendon County.
I hope each of you appreciates the beauty around you and do everything you can to protect both the land and the waterways. They are true treasures.
We enjoy shopping in your businesses, eating in your restaurants and being a part of the community as much as we can.
Thank you to those who take the time to remember us after repeated visits and make us feel welcome.
A friendly smile can do wonders to make a customer come back again! Thanks again for sharing your community with us.
I hope, if you come to Walterboro in Colleton County to visit our lovely area, you will meet with equally kind treatment and welcoming smiles.
We are known for our many antiques stores and fun treasure-seeking in the historic downtown area.
You are cordially invited to come visit!
Sincerely,
Robert and Sylvia Dukes

SBF Poker Run a success …
Dear Editor:
On behalf of the Goat Island Boat Club, I would like to thank our sponsor, IGA of Manning, and all those who made monetary donations or donated products and or services as prizes.
Your generosity and support are truly appreciated. Our Poker Run would not be possible without you.
I would also like to thank those who made donations directly to our Scholarship Fund. We proudly presented this year’s scholarship to, Lauren E. Frantz of Laurens, S.C. She is a very deserving young woman who was recently accepted into Clemson University’s wildlife and fisheries program.
Again, thank you to all those who helped to make our 2009 Poker Run a success.
Sincerely,
J. Miller, President
