Pride in Foodservice Week
Dear Editor:
The week of February 2-6 was Pride in Foodservice Week.
Lake Marion Nursing Facility in Summerton has a dietary department that does take pride in the jobs they do everyday.
When I became the food service director in March 2008, past experience told me I could expect to work with dietary employees who would just drag in to a job every day.
Oh boy, did they prove me wrong!
All the dietary employees care about the residents they serve. You can’t please everyone in this profession, but I have discovered that nutrition is a very important part of a resident’s life, really in everyone’s life.
The dietary staff at Lake Marion tries their best to please the residents, while still complying with diet and DHEC regulations. Everyone’s job in dietary is important!
More than just caring for the residents, the dietary staff care for each other; when one hurts the rest of the staff hurts.
I’ve been in the food service profession since 1982 starting from the bottom and working my way through the ranks and school to become a food service manager.
I must say this is the best group of dietary employees that I have ever supervised. It is an honor to direct Lake Marion’s Dietary Department and to be a part of a unique family of food service employees!
Sincerely,
Karen Connell, CDM, CFPP

Thanks for support …
Dear Editor:
I would like to thank everyone who attended and supported the Music for Missions Benefit at the Breedin Garden Room on Jan. 31. There were monetary contributions, as well as refreshments, desserts, door prizes and those who sacrificed their time to attend the event.
I especially want to thank Pastor Cribb for being the speaker and sharing with the group about the ministry God has led him and his wife Cindy into with On the Wings of Praise Ministries, Inc.
Pastor Cribb was encouraging with his statement “God is looking at the filled seats, not the empty seats.” Nick Hodge was honored with the unveiling of a portrait he drew for the T-shirts to be worn by the Mission Team when they return to the Dominican Republic in June and November. The local talent was very inspirational and “God was in the house.”
As a part of the Wings of Praise ministries team, I would like to take approximately 300-400 teddy bears to the children on the next trip. Just a teddy bear to hug anytime day or night would be such a blessing to them. If anyone has a resource for me to accomplish this goal, I would appreciate a telephone call from you at 460-6720.
Sincerely,
Cindy Bradham
