A community comes together for a cure …
Dear Editor:
Clarendon’s Relay for Life is now just a memory. It was a great season!
Cancer cooperation was colorblind on March 29 in New Zion. My sister-in-law, Thelma Harrison and a family friend, Jemmett Butler Montgomery sold my barbecued pig and turkey cooked by Teddy and Eddie Levern Harrison to supplement the financial donations to raise money for Relay for Life (New Zion Community Team 2008). The chicken bog was prepared and sent by Eddie Floyd’s Restaurant in Turbeville. It was great!
Our community farmers, Mr. Steve Gamble of Steve Gamble & Sons, Floyd’s Fertilizer in New Zion and Tom Coco Floyd of Justice Farms are to be commended for their time, concern and contribution to assist our Relay Project.
Manning High Band Director Ray Francis and his beautiful wife brought the Manning High School drumline to New Zion (four guys and a fantastic girl) for our Relay fundraiser on March 29. They were the BOMB! Even my goats were doing the “Cupid Shuffle.” The music was absolutely needed and much appreciated. We were together remembering our loved ones and celebrating, life, and for a cure for all!
Can you imagine someone in New Zion not liking barbecue with vinegar? Well, Mr. Jerriod Everett Grizzle of The Manning Times loves it with mustard. Please invite this young man over for some REAL southern cooking. Add vinegar please! Thank you Mr. Grizzle for your coverage. You are such an inspiring young man!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, and THANK YOU to all who participated in any way and gave your, time, energy, food and donations as it meant so much to me. Special thanks to IGA of Manning (Mr. Lamar Kennedy) and Piggly Wiggly (Mr. McLeod) and all the Lake City, Florence, Wilson, Manning, Sumter, Alcolu, Sardinia, Gable, Kingstree, New York and New Zion contributors. The New Zion Community Team’s theme was “Caring and Concerned People Binding Together for a Great Cause.” It was a great year for us.
Until next year …
