More power to them …

Dear Editor:
I know groceries are high, wages are low and times are tough. But I feel a new energy and growth in the city and surrounding areas of Clarendon County.

The owners of the old Sunbeam plant are putting a great deal of time and money into the surrounding grounds. It is great to see the grass cut and movement in the long empty buildings. More power to them.

I see a wonderful new building at the interchange of Hwy 521 and 301 North, which someone told me was a new dialysis center. More power to them.

For the first time in my memory, there is a house at the corner of Church Street and Nelson Circle. What a great addition. Thanks.

The Methodist Church has built a great new playground for their children, indicating their continued growth and success. More power to them.

There is a foundation going up on the lot across from the old Wal-Mart building. Thanks to whoever has the vision for the future success of our town. More power to them.

A new strip mall is going up beside the Corner Diner. Billy Gibbons has “put his money where his mouth is” in investing in the future of Manning. More power to him for his hard work.

I am sure there are many more such wonderful things going on in the banking, building and investment businesses of our community. Look at the library … imagine too many people wanting to read and use our resources so that we need to enlarge. How wonderful.

Thanks to our citizens, our city and county councils, and all those who are making dreams become realities.

Sincerely,
Barbara Ardis

P.S. Now, will someone please get some use out of that old Wal-Mart building and the empty parking lot that has become a garage for long distance trucks.

Very blessed …

Dear Editor:
I can’t begin to express my gratitude for the generosity and love that has been shown to my family and me during my extended illness. This time has been difficult for us but knowing we have the support of friends and community has certainly helped.

The Andrew McLeod Benefit held on April 5 was remarkable. It was overwhelming to have so many friends and neighbors come out and support me. I especially want to thank Rod Mosier, Patrick Lester, Jamie Corbett, Betsi Mosier, Johnny Harrington and the Manning Jaycees for the hard work and love that they gave to put the benefit together. Every time I think of all the time and effort you guys put into this, for me and my family, I’m just floored. To everyone that sold tickets, gave items for the auction, food for the event or who made donations I am forever grateful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You’ve helped in ways I can’t even express.

I know that not all can be mentioned but I want to say a special thank you to Cathy Gilbert, Jody Reynolds, Buddy Lewis, Betsy Jordan and the Bank of Clarendon, Concord Baptist Church. Paxville Baptist Church, Pinewood Methodist and Pinewood Baptist Church, Paxville Methodist Church, Clarendon Hall, Bill Simpson, Billy Simpson, Porter’s, Dixie Products, Elmore Cannon and Stephens, Jeannie Galiano, Bullock Funeral Home, Paxville Community Development Center, Judge Reynolds, Clyde Hudson and so many more.

I want to also thank Dr. Yvonne Davis, Todd Culclasure and Sandra from Manning Medicine for their excellent care. You guys are unsurpassed.

To my parents Wade and Libby, my in-laws Rev. Eugene and Jenny Mosier, my sister Susan, brother Joseph and brother-in-law Rod, I truly appreciate your love and continued support. You will never know how much you all mean to me.

My illness has been a burden but everyone’s actions, love and compassion have really lightened the load. The people of Clarendon and Sumter County are amazing and I thank God daily for everyone. I have been deeply humbled with all the support and donations. When I was first given the diagnosis I found myself asking God why? He gave me the answer by pulling me closer to Him and placing wonderful people in my life. I ask everyone to please continue to keep me in your prayers.

I am very blessed.

Sincerely,
Andrew McLeod
