Tourney will help to build houses …

Dear Editor:
On Saturday, June 9, 2007, Manning United Methodist Church host ther Salkehatchie Golf Tournament at Shannon Greens Golf Club (formerly known as Clarendon Golf and Country Club).

The tournament was a four-person, captain’s choice match with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. The heat sure did not keep any players out of the loop with an outstanding count of 84 players showing up to help the cause.

First place was decided by a playoff between two teams. The team of Glen Ardis, Bill Perry, Paul Fann and Ted Hardon took the top prize while the team of Gary Burris, Joey McNeil, Robert Hurt and Ron VanDell took a close second.

Third place went to the team of Walter Barrett, Bill Mahoney, Matt Kennedy and Bill Hogg.

Fourth place also ended in a playoff with the Ricky Barrett, David Bagnal, Rhett Still and Jamie Hinson taking the win.

Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to everyone who participated to make this tournament a big success for this summer housing ministry.

Sincerely,
Ike Brunson
Tournament Chair

United Ministries needs support …

Dear Editor:
United Ministries of Clarendon County is committed to helping all Clarendon County residents in crisis through assistance with food, utilities, medicine and referrals to other agencies. In 2006, we spent over $30,000 in assistance and saw 1,134 individuals. So far this year, we’ve spent $20, 873 in assistance and seen 554 individuals.

We keep detailed records on each instance of assistance. Those records reveal that we are providing assistance to many individuals who belong to churches that are not United Ministries members.

United Ministries is designed to be a cooperative effort between all churches in the county – black, white, small, large, urban and rural. Without the contributions of every church, our ability to serve those with emergency needs will be severely limited.

Please help us assist families in crisis by joining United Ministries. If your church is not currently a member, please encourage your leadership to join us. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 435-2525.

Sincerely,
Judge James Dingle
President
United Ministries of Clarendon County
