Thank you Officer Tommy Burgess …
Dear Editor:
Late on Friday, May 4, 2007, my niece’s car stopped on Hwy. 261 at a point where the road had a very low shoulder. The car was inches from dropping over in a deep ditch and its rear end was protruding in the highway. It was a dark night and there were no lights. She was in a precarious situation.
My nephew and I stopped on the other side of the road, but there was nothing we could do. As I was getting out of my car, I looked and saw a truck with a flashing light. It was Officer Tommy Burgess, who was off duty and on his way home to his family. He did not hesitate to stop and find out what was wrong. He also stayed with us the entire time, nearly two hours, until help arrived. Without him, we would have been in a dangerous situation.
Also, another officer, Officer Bradley, arrived and stayed until the tow truck came.
This letter is to say THANK YOU and may God bless you, your families and your fellow officers with His protection as you go beyond your call of duty for the citizens of Clarendon County.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Fleming
