Praise for Lamar …
Dear Editor,
The recent Habitat for Humanity Luncheon was a tremendous success! That success is due, in large part, to the countless hardworking, dedicated people who volunteered their time and resources. There is, however, one person who, I believe, needs special recognition for his unending support and effort.
Lamar Kennedy and the staff at IGA went over and above the call of duty for this event. Every morsel of food that was prepared for this luncheon came from the shelves of IGA. Regardless of the cook, the food you serve is only as good as the food you pull out of the bin or off the shelf at the grocery store. IGA provided us with excellent quality food on all counts and I believe that the quality showed in the flavor of the food that was served.
Not only was the quality of the food excellent, but Lamar never once said, “I can’t” or even “I’ll try.” Despite a few challenging requests, he always responded with “It’ll be here.”
And it was! For example, Lamar ordered a bundle of fresh thyme for our sugar snap peas. Someone in Florida, failed to put the thyme on the truck, so it did not arrive when it should have. Lamar assured me that it would arrive on another truck later that same day. Again, someone put the thyme on a truck, but the wrong truck. Now, Lamar could have easily shrugged his shoulders and said, “There’s nothing I can do.”
Those who know Lamar will not be surprised to hear that he, not only, did not shrug his shoulders, but he sent a wonderful young man named Kevin, to meet the truck in Lake City and retrieve the essential herb. It was delivered to the kitchen door just as promised.
Lamar Kennedy and staff at IGA made a point to provide Habitat for Humanity with their every need for this luncheon. The service, the quality and the professionalism found at IGA were impeccable. The kitchen volunteers and I, especially, know how great a role Lamar played in our culinary success and we are grateful.
Sincerely,
Shea Failmezger
