On Dec. 13, the second graders at Manning Primary School welcomed a special visitor … Was it Spiderman? Batman?
No … it was “Matter Man!”
Rex Smith, better known as “Matter Man,” made a presentation that reinforced the students’ science lessons on the physical properties of matter.
Smith did really cool demonstrations that changed one state of matter into another. He discussed the physical and chemical changes that take place when transforming matter.
The students were very active participants and answered most all of his questions.
Matter Man had the students making predictions and testing them to see if they were right, using “scientific language” as they went along.
Smith is a very entertaining educator that really captures the students’ attention and holds it through an entire lesson.

Darius Caesar held a glass of clear liquid while the “Matter Man,” Rex Smith poured in another clear liquid. They turned different colors! |
These demonstrations helped the students to understand the properties of some forms of matter and how they can change.
Now that was cool!
Manning Primary is always glad to have Smith come and teach the students more about matter. They look forward to having him again next year. |
