William A. Walker
William A. Walker, of Huntsville, Ala., died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, after an illness.
He was born May 20, 1952, in Sumter County, a son of the late Silas Walker Jr. and Beatrice Cain Walker. He was a member of Melina Presbyterian Church (USA) of Gable. He was a 1971 graduate of Mayewood High School. He furthered his education at Morehouse College of Atlanta, Ga. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and retired in 1993 after 23 years of service. He later joined the J.B. Hunt Transportation Co. and retired in 2007.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving and devoted wife, Betty Montgomery Walker of the home; a daughter, Yolanda (Perry) Fletcher of Huntsville; a son, Chavon Walker of Huntsville; a grandson, Justin Fletcher of Huntsville; a sister, Terisa (Steve) Simon of Sumter; a brother, Warren (Genetha) Walker of Sumter; mother-in-law, Annie Bell Montgomery of Huntsville; five sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Walker Jackson, and two brothers, Bryant E. Walker and Joseph N. Walker.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Melina Presbyterian Church (USA) in Gable with the Rev. Carnell Hampton, pastor, officiating.
Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.
Jefferson Funeral Home of Lynchburg was in charge of the arrangements.
