Johnny M. James Sr.

Johnny Marten James Sr., 76, husband of Ruth Lee Prosser James, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Regency Hospital in Florence.

Born Nov. 1, 1931, in Manning, he was a son of the late Willie Leard James Sr. and the late Mary Sylvester James. He was a self-employed farmer and store owner. He was a former member of the Clarendon County Rescue Squad, where he served as treasurer.

Surviving are his wife of Manning; three sons, Johnny Marten James Jr., William Matthew James and Robert Leard James, all of Manning; two daughters, Mary Carren James and Catherine Ellen James of Manning; a brother, Warren Oliver James of Manning; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Leard James Jr. and Asbury Cecil James.

Private family services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, in Rehobeth Cemetery.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning was in charge of arrangements.
