James A. Smythe
James Albert “Dude” Smythe, 73, died Thurdsay, Nov. 22, 2007, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born Dec. 9, 1933 in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Thomas and Mary Smythe.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Catherine F. Smythe of Summerton; five sons, James Albert Jr. (Bernice) Smythe, Theodore (Jackie) Smythe, Tyrone Smythe, Tony Smythe and Kenneth Smythe, all of Summerton; four daughters, Lorraine, Mary (Marion) Boyd, Margaret and Valerie (Sam) Belser, all of Summerton; a son-in-law, Willie Filmore; a brother, Jerry (Catherine) Brailsford of Summerton; three sisters, Lillian (Alphaeus) Richburg and Leola Parks of Manning and Minister Lillian (Bishop David) Young of Columbia; a sister-in-law, Mary (Joe Louis) Oliver; three brothers-in-law, Sil Holiday, Joe Frank and Thomas Holiday; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five special friends, Bobbie Lee Gators, Dot House, Jessie R. Coard, Felicia and Theophilus Burke; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Chandler officiating.
Burial followed in Ivory Cemetery in Davis Station.
Summerton Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
