Robert D. McFadden

Robert David (Son) McFadden, 74, husband of Mattie Brown McFadden, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at his home.

Born March 19, 1933, in New Zion, he was a son of the late Robert David McFadden Sr. and Pearl McKenzie McFadden. He received his education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He accepted Christ as his savior and joined Howard Chapel AME Church, where he served faithfully as a steward, class leader, vice chairman of the finance committee and delegate for the Northeast Annual Conference. He also served on many civic organizations. He sang for more than 60 years with the Silvertones Singers of Lake City, Gospel Stars of Turbeville and many other groups. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters, Leola (Eugene) Kennedy and Cynthia Ceasar, both of New Zion, and Mary Lee (Donnie) Curtis and Barbara Ann McFadden, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; seven sons, Alvin Brown, Cleo (Doris) McFadden, Lester (Jodie) McFadden, Ronald McFadden and Johnny B. McFadden, all of New Zion, Horace (Johnnie) McFadden of Sumter and Willie Lee (Joann) Player of Bennettsville; four sisters, Mildred (Harry) McCray of New Zion, Grace (William) Merritee and Eula (LaDon) Eaddy, both of Baltimore, Md., and Nell (Downy) Kennedy of Neptune, N.J.; and two brothers, Roosevelt (Dorethea) McFadden of Baltimore and Phillip McFadden of New Zion.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec 1, 2007, at Walker-Gamble Elementary School in New Zion, with the Rev. Alfred Bradley, pastor, presiding, the Rev. Jerome McCray, eulogist, assisted by the Revs. Carnell Hampton, F.C. Haskell and Lucious Wheeler.

Burial was in Old McFadden Cemetery.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
