James E. Harvin Jr.
James Edward Harvin Jr., 58, husband of Mary Frances Dickson Harvin, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 10, 1949, in Turbeville, a son of Fannie Lou Gause Harvin and the late James Ben Harvin Sr. He was a 1967 graduate of Walker-Gamble High School, New Zion. He accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Howard Chapel AME Church, where he served faithfully on the usher board, trustee board and chancellor choir. He was employed for 17 years with Sumter Metal Co. until his health failed.
Survivors include his mother, Fannie G. Harvin of Sumter; his wife, Mary Frances Dickson Hardin of the home; three daughters, Sharon Denice Harvin and Angie Larissa Harvin, both of Columbia, and Pamela Renee Harvin of Gable; one stepdaughter, Elouise Brand of New Zion; one stepson, Ronald Dickson of New Zion; two brothers, Jimmy Lee (Thelma) Harvin and Elijah (Betty) Harvin, both of Gable; three sisters, Corine (Henry) Tomlin, Ellaree Sheroid and Deloris (Alexander) Butler, all of Sumter; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at Howard Chapel AME Church in New Zion, with the Rev. Alfred Bradley, pastor, officiating, assisting the Rev. Edward Roberts, the Rev. Jerome McCray and the Rev. Carnell Hampton.
Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.
Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
