Frank E. King
MIAMI, Fla. – Frank Earl King, 90, husband of Ophelia Dupree King, died Nov. 17, 2006, at Mercy Hospital, Miami, Fla.
Born Sept. 17, 1916, in Manning, he was a son of the late Charles King and Lue Plowden King. He accepted Christ and joined Williams Chapel Christian Church. He attended Williams Chapel Christian Church School, graduated from Manning Training High School and attended South Carolina State College. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Air Corps attached to the 99th Air Squadron, and was part of the ground support for the Tuskegee Airmen. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He received the Congressional Gold Medal and President’s Memorial Certificate.
Survivors include his wife, Ophelia Dupree King of the home; two sons, Paul (Shirley) Servance and Wilbur Earl (Linda) King; two daughters, Juliet King and Elsie King Hamler; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by nine brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, at Williams Chapel Christian Church in Manning, with the Rev. Emmanuel Evans, pastor, officiating, the Rev. Barney Dozier, presiding, assisted by Evangelist Dora B. Dyson and Minister David Woods.
Burial was in the churchyard cemetery.
