James Henry Benbow

James Henry Benbow, 54, died, Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at his residence in Summerton.

Born July 22, 1952, in Clarendon County, he was a son of Hattie Mae Washington and the late Moses Ellison “Son” Benbow. James was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County School District 1 and was a 1970 graduate of Scott’s Branch High School. Upon graduation, James relocated to Washington, D.C. For many years, he managed the Wheaton Plaza KFC franchise in Wheaton, Md. Tiring of metropolitan life, in 2003 James returned to South Carolina and was employed by Carolina Gold Kist Inc. James Henry was not a man of many words, but when he spoke he was kind, thoughtful and reflective.

Two brothers, Moses Jr. and Johnny Benbow, preceded him in death.

Loved ones who will cherish his memory and grow from his love are his loving mother, Hattie M. Benbow of Forestville, Md.; two daughters, Kayonna and Sharney of Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Bernice Clark of Davis Station, his loving caretaker, Oree Benbow of Summerton, and Janet (Sammy) James of Suitland, Md.; three brothers, Anthony (Patricia) Benbow of Fort Washington, Md., Tyrone and Joseph Robinson of Forestville; two aunts, Artrelle Benbow Brown of Sumter and Carrie Lee Frank of Washington, D.C.; one uncle, Nathaniel Benbow Jr. of Sumter; two great-aunts, Sarah Washington of Summerton and Camilla Washington of Thomasville, N.C.; devoted companion, Camilla Green; a special cousin and best friend, Jarrot Nelson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Benbow were held on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at Holy Temple of Christ in Summerton. Services were officiated by Pastor James Blanding.

Burial followed in Hopkins Cemetery in Davis Station.

Summerton Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
