Lois Smith
Mother Lois Smith, 71, widow of James Andrew Servance, died Nov. 5, 2007, at Palmetto Health Baptist, Columbia.
Born Aug. 29, 1936, in the Silver community of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Ed and Louisa Postell Smith.
She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. She was a devoted member of St. John Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with the Manning Head Start Center for 29 years. Previously, she was employed with Clarendon School District 2 at Manning Middle School with the food service department.
Survivors include five sons, Robert (Arnessa) Smith of High Point, N.C., Albert (Fannie) Smith of Greensboro, N.C., Leon (Annette) Smith of Manning, Andrew Smith of Paterson, N.J., and James Smith of Sumter; three daughters, Pastor Lois A. Smith of Manning, Frances (Eugene) Dyson of White Plains, N.Y., and Christine (John) Lawson of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Louise (Junious) Conyers of Manning, Willie Mae Glisson of Philadelphia, Pa., and Lillie Mae Pearson of Baltimore, Md.; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six sisters and one brother.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at St. John Baptist Church, Silver community, with the Rev. Dr. C. Richburg, eulogist, officiating, assisting the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Richburg and the Revs. Linda Conyers and Nate Brock.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home was in charge of services.
