Willie James Marion
Willie James Marion, 75, husband of Geneva Watson Marion, died Nov. 4, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born June 1, 1932, in Summerton, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Mary King Marion. Mr. Marion attended the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Taw Caw Baptist Church, Summerton. Moving to Sumter, he joined Salem Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained faithful until his death. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a truck driver and then later he worked for Korn Industries until he retired.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Geneva W. Marion; one son, Willis (Gwendolyn) Marion of Queens Village, N.Y.; two daughters, Quanette Marion-Washington of Sumter and Jewette (James) Tomlin of Dalzell; four grandchildren, Kimberly James, Qualenda Washington, C. Alexander Washington and Thomas Harrison; one sister, Elizabeth Marion of Sumter; seven sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Lanier Marion; two sisters, Florence Marion and Elease Smith; and five brothers, Ravenel, Edmund, Roosevelt, George and Mose Marion.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Nov 8, 2007, at Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. N. Lamonte Newsome, pastor, officiating.
Burial was in Hillside Memorial Park.
Job’s Mortuary Inc. of Sumter was in charge of arrangements.
