Thomas Eli Gibbons Sr.
Thomas Eli “T. E.” Gibbons,Sr., 86, widower of Carmel Lee Gibbons, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at the home of his daughter in Lynchburg.
Born Jan. 20, 1921, in Turbeville, he was a son of the late Charlie and Effie Coker Gibbons. He was a member of Turbeville First Baptist Church, a reader at Walker-Gamble School for the past 13 years, a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member, a member of Woodmen of the World and American Legion Post 132, a retired electrician, and WWII Air Force veteran.
Surviving are two daughters, Bertie (Bubba) Nesbitt of Lynchburg, and Becky (Doug) Hinson of Aynor; four sons, Nat (Leila) Cross, Keith (Renee) Gibbons, Chris (Lois) Gibbons, all of Turbeville, and Thomas Eli (Lorri) Gibbons Jr., M.D. of Irmo; one brother, Larry Elvin Gibbons of Manning; 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Betty Driggers.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, in the Turbeville First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Robert Craven and Rev. Robert Griggs officiating.
Burial followed in the First Baptist Memorial Gardens in Turbeville.
Pallbearers were Frank Nesbitt, Matthew Floyd, Lee Cross, Michael Gibbons, Zan Beasley, and Steven Coker.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Sunday School Class of Turbeville First Baptist Church.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice Care of the Tri-County.
