Willie Ida Hearns

Willie Ida Hearns, 103, widow of Charlie Hearns, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born March 7, 1904, in Union, she was a daughter of the late Rev. William Sarter and Ida Sarter. Her education was obtained in Union and Newberry counties. Afterward, she entered Waverly School of Nursing and continued her education in New York City. She was employed with Lincoln Memorial Hospital, until her retirement. She was a member of Springfield Gardens Presbyterian Church in New York.

Survivors include a brother, Tom Sarter of Newberry; two nephews, Daniel Pruitt of Atlanta, Ga., and David Pruitt of New York; and three nieces, Marjorie F. Fleming (Ronald) Saunders of Manning, Ruth Walker of Gary, Ind., and Mildred Watkins of Newark, N.J.

She was preceded in death by three siblings, Ella Parshall, Elizabeth Pruitt and Lunette Robinson.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Fleming and DeLaine Chapel in Manning, with the Rev. George P. Windley, eulogist, officiating, and the Revs. L. McElveen, M. Walters and H. McCray.

Burial was in Manning Cemetery.

Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home of Manning was in charge of services.
