Leroy Green
Leroy Green, 59, widower of Rudine Richardson Green, was called to eternal rest on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at Dorn VA Medical Center, Columbia.
Born June 16, 1948, in Sumter County, he was the son of George Green and the late Pink Linton Green. Leroy attended the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Ebenezer High School Class of 1966. He furthered his education by attending Sumter Area Technical College, where he earned an associate degree in machinery to the level of tool room status. He also completed H&R Block tax courses. Leroy was a licensed plumber throughout Sumter County. He served his country in the U.S. Army for three years, during which he completed a tour of duty in Vietnam.
Leroy was raised in a loving and Christian home. He joined St. Mark Four Bridges Baptist Church and later joined Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. His passion was singing and playing his guitar to the glorification of the Lord. He was a member of the Original Golden Five of Bishopville.
His loving memories will be cherished by his sons, Jasper Leroy Green of the home and Mallory Richardson of Upper Darby, Pa.; his father, George Green of Sumter; two aunts, Bernitha Wilson of Sumter and Catherine Green of Watha, N.C.; two brothers, George (Bertha) Green of Sumter and David L. (Nancy) Green of Manning; five sisters, Naomi Berkins of Sumter, Georgia Smith of Newark, N.J., Janie (Willie) James of Wilmington, N.C., Ruby (Marshall) Harris of Newport News, Va., and Julia (Michael) Tindal of Fort Sam Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Mallory Richardson and Mallory Dennis Richardson; four sisters-in-law, Ada M. Brown of Upper Darby, Marge Richardson, Lauretta Green of Rahway, N.J., and Mary Green of Iselin, N.J.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pink Linton Green; his wife, Rudine Richardson Green; a daughter, Anitra Danielle Green; a son, Tyrone H. Richardson; three sisters, Annie Ruth Graham, Betty G. McDuffie and Barbara P. Green; and two brothers, Josh Green and James Edward Green.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, from the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter, with the Rev. Larry C. Weston, pastor, eulogist, the Rev. John Platt, presiding, assisted by the Rev. Joshua Dupree Jr. and the Rev. Quintero O. Taylor Sr.
Flower bearers and pallbearers were friends of the family.
Burial was in the Hillside Memorial Park in Sumter.
Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter was in charge of the arrangements.
