Marie Simon Boyd
Marie Simon Boyd, 97, widow of Clarence Boyd Sr., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at her home.
Born May 19, 1910, in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late Mamie Simon. She attended the public schools of Sumter County. At the age of 16, she was converted, baptized and joined the Grant Hill Baptist Church, where she served until her health failed.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was loving and kind to everyone she came in contact with. Her heart would open up to the world.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: six sons, Booker T. (Leola) Boyd of Dalzell, Burl (Mamie Lee) Boyd of Cassatt, James (Ruby Jean) Boyd of Gable, Thomas Boyd of the home, the Rev. Henry (the Rev. Sharyn) Boyd of Dalzell and Anthony Boyd of Bishopville; three daughters, Elizabeth Boyd of the home, Louise B. Nelson and Mary Boyd Smith, both of Dalzell; one daughter-in-law, Ruby N. Boyd; one son-in-law, Clarence Smith; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one niece, Savannah Spann of Sumter; a special friend, Dorothy Ellerbe; a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two sons, John C. Boyd and Clarence Boyd Jr.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, from the Grant Hill Baptist Church in Rembert, with the Rev. Clifton Witherspoon, pastor, presiding, the Rev. Roosevelt Williams, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Roberta S. Wilson, the Rev. Durant Jenkins, the Rev. Henry Bradley and Minister Minnie Dennis.
Floral bearers were granddaughters and friends.
Pallbearers were grandsons and friends.
Burial was in the Sand Hill Cemetery, Rembert.
Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter was in charge of the arrangements.
