Eugene Bowman
Bishop Eugene Bowman, 87, widower of Melissa Lemon Bowman and husband of Dora Martin Bowman, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at his home in Manning.
He was born April 15, 1920, in the Davis Station section of Clarendon County, a son of the late John Bowman and Binky Stukes Bowman.
He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County.
He accepted Christ as his Savior in his youth and joined Laurel Hill AME Church. He moved to Baltimore, Md., and was employed with Eskay Meat Plant until retirement in 1971.
He returned home and joined Triumph the Church in Kingdom of God in Christ and later Christ New Covenant Outreach Church. Later, he moved to Loving and Deliverance Christian Fellowship Ministries, where he was ordained bishop.
He is survived by his wife, Dora Martin Bowman; five sons, James, John, Robert, Alphonso and David Bowman; two daughters, Melissa Ben and Helen Cornish; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Hayes F. and LaNelle J. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel in Manning, with officiating Rev. Rubbeanunion Grant, presiding Minister Alphonso Bowman Sr. as eulogist, and Minister Shawndel D. Smith and the Rev. Leroy Green assisting.
Burial was in Carolina-Johnson Cemetery.
Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
