Ruth Anna D. Buckman

Ruth Anna Dickerson Buckman, 85, wife of Grealy Buckman Sr., died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at Sumter Health and Rehab.

Born Dec. 15, 1921, in Rimini, she was the daughter of the late Calhoun Dickerson and Irene Richardson Dickerson Hampton. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, she distinguished herself as a Christian, accepted Christ and joined Antioch UME Church, Rimini. Mrs. Buckman later joined Calvary Baptist Church, where she served as a missionary. Mrs. Buckman was loved and well respected by all who knew her.

Survivors include her devoted husband of 66 years, Grealy Buckman Sr.; one son, Grealy Buckman Jr. of Sumter; eight daughters, Norene (Tamadge) Canty of Sumter, Margaret (George) Dow, Earlene (Leroy) Dow and Beverly Buckman, all of Bronx, N.Y., Rosanna (Ferrell) Favors of Queens, N.Y., Ruth (Lebert) Buckman Murray of Largo, Md., Andrea Buckman and Patricia Buckman, both of Pinewood; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Susan Buckman Wilkes of Rochester, N.Y.; two stepsisters, Susan Richardson of Pinewood and Annie L. Spann of Philadelphia, Pa.; one stepbrother, Franklin (Ruth) Hampton of Pinewood; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Robert, Napoleon and Moses Dickerson.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Pinewood, with the Rev. E.L. Sanders, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dr. D.L. Grant, presiding, the Rev. John Johnson and Minister Thomas Conyers Jr.

Burial wase in the Calvary and Zionhill Cemetery, Pinewood.

Job’s Mortuary Inc. of Sumter was in charge of arrangements.
