James M. Thompson Sr.
James Murray Thompson Sr., 84, husband of Inez Thompson, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence.
Born in Manning, he was a son of the late Hugh Edward Thompson and the late Callie Daniels Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a member and deacon of Concord Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and served in the Philippines. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and also a member of the Woodmen of the World.
He was twice married, first to the late Mildred Hodge Thompson.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, James “Jim” M. (Gail) Thompson Jr. of Sumter and Charles “Charlie” (Dickey) Thompson of Chapin; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Link and Cleo DuBose, both of Sumter; and a brother, Hugh Ray Thompson of Alcolu.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Britton Richardson; four brothers, Ed, Billy, Julian “Bubba” and Harold Thompson; and five sisters, Eva Lee, Caro Andrews, Hazel Boyce, Dot Floyd and Cecile Thompson.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, in the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Eugene Mosier officiating.
Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
