Henry E. Brown
Henry Edward Brown, 81, widower of Janie Larkins Brown, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at his residence in Wilmington, N.C.
Born April 18, 1926, in Summerton, he was a son of the late Henry and Thelma Brown.
Henry attended the public schools of Clarendon County. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a marksman. During his tour of duty, he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was employed by Public Works in the District of Columbia government for 27 years. For several years, he never missed a day of work, earning him the name “Old Faithful” among fellow workers and supervisors. On the job, he was also given the Award of Excellence. He retired from the District of Columbia government in 1991 after 27 years of service.
Henry was a sensitive and caring brother, husband and friend. A sister, Vera, and a brother, Howard, preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish many memories and mourn his passing six sisters, Geneva Finney of Orangeburg, Eva Quarles of Fort Washington, Md., Beatrice Rivers of Summerton, Marian Duren of Wilmington, N.C., Ethel Marshall of Lynchburg, Va., and Maxine Reynolds of Oakland, Calif.; three brothers, Nathaniel Brown of Washington, D.C., Harrison Brown of Sumter and Thomas Brown of Orangeburg; a godson, Cedric C. Jones of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. William T. Johnson, pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Tommie Duren, eulogist.
Final resting place was in the church cemetery.
