Elbert H. Hicks

Elbert H. Hicks, 81, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at his residence after an illness.

Born in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Jesse James Hicks and Eva Baggett Hicks. Mr. Hicks was a retired farmer, U.S. Navy veteran, Mason, member of the American Legion, deacon and member of Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Julia H. Driggers; and a brother, Jesse J. (Jim) Hicks Jr.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Kay Moore Hicks of Turbeville; three daughters, Susan Kay Hicks of Lexington, Jackie Hicks (Charlton) Watts of Turbeville and Carol Hicks (Yancey) Newell of Knightdale, N.C.; one son, Elbert H “Bert” (Maree) Hicks Jr. of Turbeville; four grandsons, Matthew Hicks, Jesse Hicks and Trey (Mary) Watts, all of Turbeville, and W. Jackson Watts of Wake Forest, N.C.; and two granddaughters, Caroline Chandler of Knightdale, N.C., and Elizabeth Hicks of Turbeville.

Memorials may be made to Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church, 1097 Horse Branch Road, Turbeville, SC 29162, or Friends of India Trust Fund, P.O. Box 9, Turbeville, SC 29162.

Funeral services were held Monday at Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church with burial in the St. James Cemetery. Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta was in charge of arrangements.
