Henry A. Hicks

Henry Allen Hicks, 69, of Milton, Florida, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2007, after a long illness.

He was born in Manning on Sept. 9, 1937, the son of the late Allen and Lucille Hicks.

Henry was a graduate of Boys High School in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Upon completion of school, he went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy where he retired after 20 years of service. He earned a degree in engineering and proceeded to work for and retire from Williams International Aerospace in Walled Lake, Michigan.

Henry was an active member and chairman of the deacon board of James Street Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Pride of Milton #12, Heroines of Jericho #251, Retired Social Club, Men with Vision, Santa Rosa Chapter, NAACP, and past Patron of Peace Chapter #5, Order of the Eastern Star.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, La-Sylvia Hicks; children, Sylvester (Susan) Hicks, Anita (Kenny) Johnson, all of Milton; Henrietta (Daniel) Thomas of Pontiac, Michigan; two adopted children, James Hicks of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; and Bianca Hicks of Milton; one sister; five brothers; five grandchildren; six sisters-in-law; eleven godchildren; and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Hicks; his sisters-in-law, Mary, Henrietta and Ada Hicks and Myra Morrison Jackson; and his mother-in-law, Georgia Morrison Dunlap.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at Mt. Pilgrim African Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Warren P. Gilmore, pastor of James St. Baptist Church, officiating, and assisted by the Rev. James Goosbly, pastor of Mt. Pilgrim African Missionary Baptist Church.

Burial followed in Milton-Keyser Cemetery.

Full Masonic and military honors were present at graveside.

Lewis Funeral Home in Milton was in charge of arrangements.
