Clarendon County Libraries’ Summer Reading program a huge success
By Cathy Gilbert
The Summer Reading Program at the Harvin Clarendon County Library is a much anticipated annual event. From speccial events like appearances by meteorologist Ken Aucoin at a “Pajama Party” story time to Midyette Magic, who combine character education with magic, to just plain fun doing sidewalk chalk art in front of the library building, there was something for everyone.
Under the direction of Children’s Librarian Jennifer Howard-Kelley, the program entertained scores of children throughout June aand July.
This year’s theme took on a mysterious “sleuth” theme with “Get a Clue” for children aged 3-12 and “You Never Know” for teens aged 13-18.
All participants pledged to read a certain number of hours each week and all those who complete the program received a South Carolina State Library reading medal and a certificate.
Here are just a few scenes from this year’s exciting program.
All programs at the Library are free and open to the public. The Library welcomes adults and children of all ability levels.
