Tom Thompson
Julian Bryan “Tom” Thompson, 76, passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Services were held on Sunday, aug. 27, 2007, at Edgemere Church of Christ with burial in the DFW National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
Memorial services will be arranged in Sumter for a later date.
Tom was born Nov. 6, 1930, in Manning, to Hugh Edward and Callie Thompson. On Nov. 27, 1953, he was married to Gwendolyn Pittman in Wichita Falls. Tom served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 until his retirement as a chief master sergeant in 1976. During his service, he graduated from the NCO Academy, the Defense Language Institute and the Defense Intelligence School.
Tom was a member of Edgemere Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Newcomers Club, the Congressional Club and the Retired Military Happy Hour Dance Club. He enjoyed playing golf, working in the yard and traveling extensively with Gwen.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gwendolyn Thompson of Wichita Falls; daughter, Roxanne (Shaun) Lopez of Hurst, Texas; and two grandchildren, Bryan and David Lopez. He is also survived by two sisters, Joyce Link and Cleo DuBose, both of Sumter; and two brothers, Murray Thompson of Sumter and Hugh Ray Thompson of Alcolu.
