Emmett L. Taylor

Emmett Lewis Taylor, 87, widower of Loretta Orene Boyd Taylor, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born in Summers County, W.Va., he was a son of the late Emmett Cleveland Taylor and the late Gertrude Taylor. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service and was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Elmore of Summerton and Wanda (Jerry) Powell of Melissa, Texas; four grandchildren, Amy (Matthew) Heath of Charleston, Tim (March) Powell of Gainesville, Fla., Wayne (Susan) Elmore of Sumter and Bryan (Amanda) Elmore of Melbourne, Fla.; and six great-grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth, Madison, Braden, Jack, Travis and Seth.

Graveside services with military honors were held on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007 in the St. Paul Cemetery in Summerton with the Rev. Rob Pierce officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Cypress Foundation of Clarendon Memorial Hospital, P.O. Box 550, Manning, S.C. 29102.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter was in charge of arrangements.
