Annie McFadden

Annie James Barfield McFadden died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Janie James Barfield. She attended Goodwill School in the Gable community of Sumter County. She was a lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian Church USA, where she faithfully served in many capacities including the usher board, the deacon board and the Missionary Women. She was also a member of the Red Hill Order of the Eastern Star, the Joint Stock and the YMCA Lodge.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James McFadden; a daughter, Janie Louise; a son, Arthur McFadden; a brother, William Barfield; three sisters, Katie Bowens, Bessie Bowens and Mattie Bell Wilson; and a granddaughter, Chanda R. McFadden.

Surviving are a son, James Wesley (Hattie) McFadden of the home; three daughters, Gwendolyn M. McBride, Annie Lucile (Benny) Ward of Sumter and Earline Hicks of Alcolu; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two brothers, Walter (Rosa) Barfield of Alcolu and Harry Lee (Robertha) Barfield of Queens, N.Y.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at Westminster Presbyterian Church USA with the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Ella F. Busby, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Ernest Jackson, the Rev. Dr. Franklin D. Colclough, Minister Othan Franklin and Evangelist Barbara Brockington.

Interment followed in the Barfield Cemetery in Alcolu.

The Order of Eastern Star served as flower bearers.

Palmer Memorial Chapel of Sumter was in charge of funeral arrangements.
