James Cantey

James “Tucker” Cantey, 64, husband of Geradine Barr Cantey, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born Oct. 26, 1942, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Joe Cantey and Thomasina Dingle Cantey. His education was obtained in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and served on the trustee board and sang with the male chorus.

Survivors include two brothers, Marion (Earnestine) Cantey of Newark, N.J., and Elder Dr. Joe (Minister Louise) Cantey of Irvington, N.J.; and four sisters, Lucille Space and Hattie Johnson, both of Manning, Evangelist Shirley Williams of Irvington and Elease (the Rev. Dr. George) Wilson of Danville, Va.

He was preceded in death by one son, Wilbur Brock, and one brother, Robert Cantey.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Jonathan Mouzon officiating, the Rev. O’Donald Dingle, Elder Prince Sampson Pearson, the Rev. Curtis Cantey and the Rev. Malachi Gibson.

Burial was in State Cemetery.

Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home of Manning was in charge of services.
