Brenda G. Avin

Brenda Gardner Avin, 57, widow of Oregon Douglas “O.D.” Avin, died Saturday Aug. 18, 2007, at her home.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Alfred J. Gardner and Dorothy Hobbs Gardner.

Mrs. Avin was a member of Christian Fellowship Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Christy Nettles of Manning and Lisa Nettles Hodge of Fort Mill.; two stepsons, Steve Avin of Sumter and Olin Avin of Tallahassee, Fla.; two brothers, Jack Gardner of Columbia and Gerald Gardner of Sumter; six sisters, Mamie Perry, Betsy Grenville, Amy Hudson and Mary Baker, all of Sumter, Cheryl Birchfield of Myrtle Beach and Karen Bledsoe of Saluda; four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased in death by a sister, Lynda Gardner, and a stepson, Ronnie Avin.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, in the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Lyn Hill officiating.

Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory of Sumter was in charge of the arrangements.
