Leo Murray
Leo Murray, 89, husband of Mary Jane Green Murray, died Aug. 8, 2007, at Trident Medical Center, Charleston.
Born July 2, 1918, in the Foreston section of Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Pruett Sr. and Julia Hilton Murray. He was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. In his youth, he accepted Christ as his savior. He was a member of Holy Rock Holiness Church, where he served as a deacon. He was self-employed in the pulpwood industry and as a farmer. He was later employed as a logger for a logging company of Bonneau.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Green Murray of the home; four daughters, Ethel Lee Murray of Richmond, Va., Etta (Sammy) Washing of New York, N.Y., Martha A. Sabb of Greeleyville and Virginia (Woodrow) Ragins of Manning; five sons, Alfred Murray, Ernest (Margaret) Murray, Kenneth (Ethel) Murray and John Allen (Everlena) Murray, all of Manning, and Solomon (Gail) Murray of New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Ruth Hilton of Manning and Connie (Rigby) Conyers of New Haven, Conn.; one brother, Pruett Murray Jr. of Manning; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Lillie Mae and Lillie Bell Murray.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Hayes F. and LaNelle J. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel in Manning, with the Rev. Jack Morant officiating, eulogist, Overseer Early Singletary assisting the Rev. Harry Robinson, Elder Nathinal Murray, the Rev. Fred Snyder and Minister Elton Hilton.
Burial was in Junky Yard Cemetery in the Foreston community of Manning.
Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
