Edward Gamble Sr.
Edward “Chune” Gamble Sr., age 87, husband of the late Edith Lee Gamble, died Aug. 3, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born May 5, 1920, in the New Zion section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Pickney Gamble and Ida Eaddy Gamble. He received his formal education at Lodabar Parochial School in New Zion. He was a lifelong member of Lodabar AME Church, where he served as a trustee, steward, class leader, church custodian and president of the layman organization. He was also the last survivor of the original “Gospel Train.”
He is survived by seven daughters, Annie Mae Gamble, Ida Gamble and Inell Gamble, all of New Zion, Mary Gamble of Manning, Betty (Michael Sr.) Richardson and Irlean Gamble, both of Columbia, and Susan R. Gamble of Philadelphia, Pa.; four sons, Carnell (Jean) Lee of Philadelphia, Marion (Janie) Gamble of Davis Station, Richard Gamble of New Zion and Marshall (Brenda) Gamble Sr. of Manning; 29 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and extended family, Jeannie (Wendell) Robinson, James Hugh (Jill) McFadden Jr. and Susan McFadden and children.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and three sons, Leon, Pickney and Edward Gamble Jr.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at Lodabar AME Church in New Zion.
Burial followed in the Friendship Presbyterian Church cemetery.
The Rev. Francis Dennison, pastor, officiated, assisted by the Rev. I.B. Herbert.
Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
