Rubye S. Corbett
Rubye Scott Corbett, 83, wife of 40 years of the late David E. Corbett Sr., peacefully ended her life’s voyage on Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Henry and Elaine Byrd.
Born in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Charles P. Scott and the late Eunice Hodge Scott.
Mrs. Corbett was a member of Open Bible Baptist Church and was retired from Crescent Tool Co. She was also formerly employed by Charm House.
Surviving are a son, David E. “Eddie” (Marlene) Corbett Jr.; a daughter, Elaine C. Byrd and husband, Henry, all of Sumter; two brothers, Jimmie Scott and Charles P. Scott Jr., both of Sumter; one sister, Rose Ann Gagne of Irmo; two grandchildren, David Byrd and his wife, Terrie, and Deborah G. Corbett, all of Sumter; three great-great-grandchildren, Jeremy David Byrd, Zachary Daniel Byrd and Emilee Grace Byrd; and a very special friend, Miriam Hodge.
She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Rosa Dennis Scott; brothers, John Scott, Carl Scott, George “Plug” Scott, Cecil Scott and R.K. Scott; and sisters, Ellen Barker, Patricia Sigmon and Ruth Sessions.
The family would like to thank the workers with Hospice Care of Tri County, Sue Smith, Randi Massengill, Beth Craven, Elaine Mack and Minnie Leaf, for their devotion and care given to Mrs. Corbett.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Open Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Hummel officiating.
Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were G.P. Goff, Bobby Byrd, Calvin Carraway, Preston Geddings, Jeff Dyson and great-grandson, Jeremy Byrd.
