Levan McCray

Levan McCray, age 79, of Summerton, husband of C. Virginia White McCray, died July 27, 2007, at Sumter Health and Rehab Center.

He was the son of the late Goins McCray and Azalee Carter McCray. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was honorably discharged in 1952 from the U.S. Army. He served as a Jehovah’s Witness and was baptized April 10, 1954. He served as an elder for 47 years. In 1995, he retired from the New York Transit Authority and returned home.

Survivors include his wife, C. Virginia White McCray of the home; four children, Deborah Mays, Shelly McCray, Joel (Chole) McCray and Pamela McCray; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Abraham (Eartha Lee) McCray, Walter (Maddie) McCray, Ezekiel (Dorothy) McCray and Charlie (Thelma) McCray; and two sisters, Lou Jane (Roy) Maitland and Alice McCray.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Katherine McCray.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
