Miriam E. Johnson
LYNCHBURG – Miriam E. Johnson, age 71, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Sumter County, the oldest child of Lucius and Dora Hodge Evans. She graduated from Edmunds High School. She was retired from the John K. Crosswell Home, after serving 37 years as secretary. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Lynchburg, where she served on many committees and was the pianist and choir director for 40 years. She was also active in the church’s women’s society and worked with the teenagers for many years.
She was first married to the late Carlton J. Jordan and later to the late Robert J. Johnson.
She is survived by two sons, David (Betsy) Jordan of Turbeville and Keith (Vicki) Jordan of Lynchburg; one daughter, Sandra (Mitchell) Barrineau of Turbeville; and five grandsons, Will Barrineau, Jason Barrineau, Brent Jordan, Bryce Jordan and Kristopher Jordan; two sisters, Carolyn Evans and Edna Watford of Sumter; one brother, the Rev. Ralph (Sara) Evans of North Carolina; seven stepchildren, James, Larry, Van, Ed, Terry and Jerry Johnson and Dora J. Beasley; 28 step-grandchildren; and 16 step-great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved very much.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Lynchburg, conducted by the Rev. Jim Ridenhour.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church or the charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to thank Dr. L.B. Givens and Dr. Phil Brandt and their staff, as well as Dr. Robert Schultz and his staff of the Columbia Heart Clinic, for all the care they provided for Mrs. Johnson.
