Lee Gooden Jr.
Lee “Daddy” Gooden Jr., 86, husband of Elouise Felder Gooden, died July 31, 2007, at Hopewell Healthcare Center.
Born July 2, 1921, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Lee Gooden Sr. and Estelle Lang Gooden. Mr. Gooden attended the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age, he confessed Christ and joined New Hope UME Church.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Elouise Felder Gooden; four daughters, Essie (Freddie) Brunson, Eleanor Amos, Camilla (Isiah) Conyers, all of Pinewood, and Anita (Grover) Duren of Manning; three sons, Lee Gooden III of Kershaw, James (Carolyn) Gooden of Wichita, Kan., and Leroy Gooden of Sumter; one sister, Rosa Shannon of Wilmington, N.C.; 33 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Edward Gooden and Albertus Gooden; and three sisters, Minnie Dyson, Rosa Lee Batts and Louise Dickerson.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at New Hope Union Methodist Episcopal Church in Pinewood, with Bishop Elect Leroy T. James, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Roger Mullins, presiding, Presiding Elder James O. Robinson, eulogist, Minister Earnest Green, Bishop Cedric White and Minister Ella Holland.
Burial was in Hillside Memorial Park.
