Rebecca C. Dukes
PINEWOOD – Rebecca Canty Dukes, age 90, wife of the late John Wesley Dukes, died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at her residence in Pinewood.
Born Oct. 10, 1916, in Summerton, she was the daughter of the late John Canty and Anna Smith. She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County. She accepted Christ as her Savior and became a member of Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her health failed.
She is survived by one son, Johnnie Lee Dukes of Queens, N.Y.; six daughters, Rebecca Dukes Oliver, Louisianna Dukes, Essie Fielder-Oliver and Azalee Williams-Kinard, all of Pinewood, Elizabeth Johnson-Oates of Harlem, N.Y., and Lucinda (Raymond) Williams of Bronx, N.Y.; a special cousin, John (Mary) Canty of Summerton; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Laura Dukes.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church in Summerton.
Burial was in the churchyard.
Officiating were Dr. W.T. Johnson assisted by the Rev. W.J. Chandler and Evangelist Johnson.
Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of arrangements. |
