James Myers Jr.

James “Jimmy” Myers Jr., husband of Jackolyn Smith Myers, died at his residence, 4720 Cane Savannah Road, in Sumter, on Wednesday, July 25, 2007.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of Celestine Lights Myers and the late James Myers Sr.
He was preceded in death by three sisters.

He received his formal education in the public schools of Brooklyn, N.Y. In his youth, he attended Sunday school and worship service at Pilgrim Baptist Church. He was a retired mechanic at Glasscock Trucking Co.

Survivors include his loving wife, Jackolyn S. Myers of the home; loving mother, Celestine L. Myers of Alcolu; two daughters, Tesha (SPC Quincy) Black of Hinesville, Ga., and Lashonda (Gregory) Mack of the home; a son, James D. Myers III of the home; four grandchildren; two sisters, Evangelist Celeste (Pastor Raymond) Woods of Mayesville and Kim (Clyde) Hilton of Sumter; a brother, William B. Myers of Sumter; five aunts; and an uncle.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Hayes F. and LaNelle J. Samuels Memorial Chapel in Manning, with the Rev. Raymond Woods Sr. officiating, assisted by Evangelist Celeste Woods and the Revs. Randolph Black and A. Springer.

Burial followed in the Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 4720 Cane Savannah Road, Sumter.
