Lucille C. Hicks

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Lucille Cobia Hicks, widow of Jessie Thomas Hicks, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Born in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Cobia Sr. and Josephine Caldwell Hicks. She received her formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County and was a member of Bethel AME Church in Manning.

A daughter, Loretta Hicks, and two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Jessie Mae Hicks of Charlotte, N.C., and Towanda (Robert) Watkins of Philadelphia; a son, Ricky Hicks of Manning; two sisters, Josephine Staley of Irmo and Rovenia Carter of Sumter; three brothers, Jeremiah (Stella Mae) Cobia and Charlie Cobia Jr., both of Sumter, and John (Gwendolyn) Cobia of Philadelphia; two aunts, Melison Green and Bernice Caldwell, both of Summerton; a mother-in-law, Ella Jane Hicks of Manning; five sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 28, 2007, at the Bethel AME Church in Manning with the Rev. Franklin McCants Sr., pastor, presiding, and Pastor Ruth Johnson, eulogist.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
