Mary Nell W. Dukes

Mary Nell Woods Dukes, wife of Thomas Dukes Jr., died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Manning, she was a daughter of Maybell Kennedy Woods and the late George Woods.

She received her formal education in New York at Queens Vocational High School. She also graduated from IBM in Queens, N.Y. She attended Leverich Memorial Church in East Elmhurst, N.Y. After moving to Manning, she joined Society Hill AME Church.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Dukes Jr. of the home; a son, Richard Lee of Ingleside, Texas; a daughter, Kisha (Shawn) Robinson of Thomaston, Ga.; four sisters, Mary R. Harrell of Wilmington, N.C., Shelly (Victor) McLaughlin of New York, Barbara (Ramond) Worsham of Roberta, Ga., and Naomi (Greg) Roberts of Williamston, N.C.; father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Evoila Dukes Sr.; three sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 30, 2007, at Society Hill AME Church, Santee Dam section of Manning, with the Rev. Malachi Gibson, pastor, officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
