Abraham Mellerson

Abraham Mellerson, 84, died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at Lake Marion Nursing Home in Summerton.

Born June 2, 1923, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Sam and Annie Walker Mellerson.

He accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. James AME Church. He was employed at Buck Bell Farm for many years.

He was married to Virgina Gipson Mellerson. From this union they were blessed with three children which precede him in death, Geneva Mellerson Miller, Troy Mellerson and Margaret Mildred Redd. He later married Cornellia McFadden Mellerson, who also preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Stella (Willie) Sanford of Rochester, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Carolyn (Russell) Hunter of Albany, N.Y.; four stepsons, Wilbur McFadden, Evan McFadden, both of New York, John McFadden of Summerton and Richard McFadden of Miami; two sisters, Edith Mellerson Gipson of Summerton and Willie M. (Jackie) Bradden of Queens, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a son-in-law; a daughter- in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Mellerson were held on Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at St. James AME Church with the Revs. Robert Carter and Patrick Mellerson officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Summerton Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
