James W. Bateman Jr.
James Wilburn “Jimmy” Bateman Jr., 67, husband of Beverly Infinger “Bootsie” Pace Bateman, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, in McLeod Hospice House in Florence.
Born April 3, 1940, in Sumter, he was a son of the late James Wilburn and Elizabeth Lynam Bateman. He was a member of Summerton United Methodist Church; retired from Industrial Sales; former owner of B&D Suzuki of Sumter; life member of Claremont Masonic Lodge of Sumter; life member of the York Rite Bodies of S.C.; member of Omar Shrine, former director of Uniform Units of the Omar Shrine; life member and past director of the Royal Order of Jesters, Charleston Court No. 113; member of the Omar Color Guard since 1973; and a charter member of the Helping Hands of Sumter.
Surviving besides his wife of Manning are two sons, Jamie (Ashley) Bateman III of Sumter, and Steve Pace of Boone, N.C.; three daughters, Elizabeth “Mitzi” (David) Lowe of Charlotte, N.C., Tami (Nick) Eleftheriou of Bluffton, and Debbie (Mike) Jasinski of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Tommy (Rose) Infinger and Joe (Sheree) Infinger, all of Sumter; six grandchildren, Richard Greene of Charlotte, Will and Chris Eleftheriou of Bluffton, Jake Lowe of Charlotte, and Nicole Jasinski of Fernandina Beach, and Camryn Bateman of Sumter; five first cousins, Bill (Janet) Lynam of Sumter, Tommy (Dale) Lynam of Hilton Head, Dr. Bobby (Marsha) Dixon of Winston Salem, N.C., Jobie (Celeste) Dixon of Litchfield Beach, and Linda (Robert) Hayes of Sumter; two nieces, two nephews, and numerous other cousins.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 6, 2007, in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Allen officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dr. George Gain and the Rev. Miriam Hadden.
Interment followed in Sumter Cemetery.
