Chinese W. Hilton

Chinese Wells Hilton, 83, wife of Deacon Levan Hilton Sr., died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born July 5, 1925, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Mount Ollie Wells and Juanita Blanding Wells. She received her formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. In her youth, she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Mount Zero Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member serving on the gospel choir.

She reared her family and many of her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Deacon Levan Hilton Sr. of the home; four daughters, Juanita (Willie J.) McFadden, Lillie M. (Floyd) Blackwell, Johanna (Maceo) Pack and Mahalia (Richard) Taylor, all of Manning; four sons, Levan (Essie) Hilton Jr., Johnnie (Dorthina) Hilton and James (Roberta) Hilton, all of Manning, and Willie Earl (Mable) Hilton of Orangeburg; adopted son, the Rev. Curtis (Jackie) Cantey of Manning; two sisters, Peggy McBride and Celestine Martin, both of Manning; a half-sister, Carrie McKnight of Wilmington, N.C.; 30 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 26, 2009, at Mount Zero Missionary Baptist Church, Paxville Highway, Manning, with the Rev. Henry K. Pressley, pastor, officiating, the Rev. Wayne Blackwell, eulogist, assisting the Rev. Lillian Wright, the Rev. Major Lloyd and the Rev.Curtis Cantey.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Floral bearers were granddaughters.

Burial was be in the churchyard cemetery.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
