Charlie Livingston

NEW YORK – Charlie Livingston departed this life on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Jamaica Hospital in Jamaica, N.Y.

Charlie was born on Feb. 26,1930, to the late Harry and Sylian Livingston. In his youth, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Liberty Hill AME Church. He attended the public schools of Clarendon County. As a young man, he met and married Robert Jean Nelson. They resided in Miami, Fla., and from their union four children were born. He later relocated to Brooklyn, N.Y., where he met and resided with Ruby Rothwell. Charlie owned and operated a gas station for 20 years. He worked at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation and retired after 18 years.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Livingston.

Those Charlie leaves to cherish his memory and grow from his love are his loving friend, Iris Washington of New York; four sons, Charlie Jr. (Ann) Livingston of Brooklyn, Larmar (Donna) Livingston of Miami, Clinton Frierson of Summerton and Jeffrey of Brooklyn; three daughters, Marguerite (Kenneth) Laws of Detroit, Mich., Ruthie (Paul) Livingston of Miami and Gloria Cheatham of Brooklyn; 12 grandchildren, Carlton, Lauren, Spencer, Martinque, Kenneth, Jarred, Charlie III, Nelson, Tamica, Dr. Shakelia, Dupree and Andaisha, five great-grandchildren, Blake, Shane, Brent, Charles and Sadie; his three sisters, Louise Walters of Summerton, Maryann Lawson of Summerton and Ruth (James) Melton of Queens, N.Y.; his two brothers, William Livingston of Summerton and Harry (Claudia) Livingston of Brooklyn; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Livingston were held on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at historic Liberty Hill AME Church in Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. Melvin J. Capers officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Summerton Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
