Clifton Hodge
NORWALK, Conn. – Clifton Hodge died Friday, June 8, 2007, at Norwalk Hospital.
Born Oct. 10, 1943, in the St. Mark community of Alcolu, he was a son of the late Saul Hodge Sr. and Clara Evans Hodge. He received his education at Pleasant Grove School, Alcolu Elementary School and Manning Training School. He accepted Christ as his Savior and joined St. Mark AME Church. After moving to Norwalk, he attended St. James Baptist Church. While in Norwalk, he was employed by Slippy Cleaning Co. as a custodian and later with Jay Gamble Floor Sanding Co.
He is survived by one daughter, Marcell (Rueben) Welfare of Ansonia, Conn.; one son, Clifton (Sandy) Welfare of Atlanta, Ga.; six sisters, Lucille Blanding and Earlean Bradley of Reading, Penn., Ella Mae Preston of Hobe Sound, Fla., Margie (Charles) Wilson and Maxine Daney Hodge, both of Alcolu, and Deloris (Jenkins) Cooper of Gable; and one brother, the Rev. Saul (Dorothy) Hodge Sr. of Reading.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Irwing, Edward and Archie Hodge.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at Greater St. Mark Church in Alcolu.
Burial followed in St. Mark AME cemetery.
Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
