Ann L. Johnson

Ann Liza “Pigg” Johnson, 77, wife of Willie “Booker T” Johnson died Friday, May 25, 2007, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born in Clarendon County on Aug. 29, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Joe Pink-ney Starks and the late Mamie Starks. Ann received her formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County and was a graduate of Scott’s Branch High School. She later moved to New York. While living in New York, she worked various places and retired from Bulova Instru-ments Co. in 1999. After retiring, she and her husband relocated to Summerton.

Those left to grow from her love and cherish her memory are her husband, Willie John-son of the home; three sons, William (Cecelia) Johnson of Tampa, Fla., Michael Johnson of Irving, Texas, and Bernard (Aisha) Johnson of Laurelton, N.Y.; three daughters, Mamie (Randy) Mellerson of Rosedale, N.Y., Joyce (Herbie) Dawkins of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Zelda Johnson of Jamaica, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Eartha Lee McCray of Summerton, Josephine Oliver of Elliot City, Md., Dorothy Turner of Utica, N.Y., Mamie Archer of Brooklyn, Tinye Mae Frank, Mazie Bell Lemon and Mattie Simms, all of Miami, Fla.; three brothers, Alfonza Starks of Summerton, Joe Edward Starks and Willie Mood Starks, both of Miami; 10 brothers-in-law; 10 sisters-in-law; two special sisters-in-law; Thelma Johnson and Evelyn Fulwood; a special brother-in-law; Thomas John-son; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church in Summerton, officiated by the Rev. Silas Spann and Elder Willie M. Starks.

Burial followed in the Santee AME Church cemetery.

Summerton Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
