Mamie Bowman

Mamie “Mama” Bowman 87, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at Lake Marion Nursing Home in Summerton.

Born Dec. 24, 1919, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Susan Bowman.

In her youth she joined Mount Pleasant UME Church in the Panola community. Mamie had a gentle spirit and helped all those she could. She will be missed dearly by all those who knew her.

She is predeceased by two sons, James Bowman and William Bowman, and a grandson, Mike Tom Bowman.

Those left to grow from her love are a son, Marion Leroy Bowman of Summerton; two daughters, Leala Weems and Victoria Bowman, both of Summerton; two daughters-in-law, Ethel Lee Bowman of Summerton and Lillie Bowman of Washington, D.C.; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 4, 2007, at Mount Pleasant UME Church, officiated by Pastor Barry Gasden.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Summerton Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
